This Privacy Policy explains how the TubeToStudy backend service handles information when you use the TubeToStudy Chrome extension (the “Extension”) to generate notes, flashcards, and quizzes from a YouTube video transcript.

1) What TubeToStudy does

The Extension extracts transcript text from the YouTube video you are watching and sends it to this backend service to generate a “study pack” (notes, flashcards, and quiz questions).

2) Information we collect

We only receive information when you actively click a button like “Generate Study Pack” in the Extension. The backend may receive:

  • YouTube transcript text (the words from the video’s transcript)
  • Video title and video URL (to provide context for generating the study pack)
  • Technical data needed to operate the service (e.g., request timestamps, error logs) — we recommend avoiding logging raw transcripts.

3) How we use information

We use the information only to:

  • Generate notes, flashcards, and quiz questions
  • Return the generated study pack to the Extension
  • Maintain, secure, and debug the service

We do not use transcript data for advertising, profiling, or selling user data.

4) Sharing / third-party processors

To generate the study pack, the backend may send the transcript and video context to an AI service provider (for example, OpenAI) as a data processor to produce the requested output.

We do not share transcript data with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.

5) Data retention

Goal: Do not retain raw transcripts on the server.

We recommend configuring the service so it does not store raw transcripts in logs or databases. If you add analytics or logging, ensure that transcripts are excluded or anonymized.

The Extension may store some data locally in your browser (Chrome storage), such as settings or recent generated results, depending on your features.

6) Security

We transmit data over HTTPS. We also recommend implementing rate limiting and request validation to protect the service from abuse.

7) Your choices

  • You can uninstall the Extension at any time.
  • You can clear the Extension’s local data in Chrome settings (Site/Extension storage).
  • You can choose not to generate a study pack (no request is sent until you click Generate).

9) Limited Use statement
